Curriculum modules
AHEN develops open-access, peer-reviewed curriculum modules for use in undergraduate and postgraduate economics courses at African universities. Modules are designed to complement, challenge, and expand orthodox syllabi — not to replace existing courses wholesale, but to introduce students to pluralist analytical frameworks alongside the mainstream.
Module format
12–15 hours of teaching content per module, including lecture notes, case studies, African-context datasets, guided reading lists, and assessment templates. Peer-reviewed before publication.

Scale
5 modules per year in the founding phase; 10 per year at full scale. Target: 20+ modules by Year 5, with 25+ universities in formal adoption.
Open Education Resource (OER) platform
AHEN's OER platform is a free, open-access digital repository hosting all AHEN curriculum modules, recorded lectures, case studies, African economic datasets, and reading lists. Universities can browse, download, and adapt materials under an open Creative Commons licence. The platform launches in Year 4 of AHEN's strategic plan.
The OER platform is under development for launch in 2029. In the meantime, modules are available on request to registered AHEN members and partner universities.
Teaching Certification in Pluralist Pedagogy
An accredited short course for university lecturers and PhD candidates who wish to integrate heterodox and pluralist approaches into their teaching. The certification covers: the philosophy of pluralist pedagogy; integrating multiple economic paradigms into course design; student assessment in pluralist contexts; and facilitating productive disagreement in economics classrooms.
Duration and format
5-day residential intensive, or modular online programme over 8 weeks. Offered in English, French, and Portuguese.
Accreditation
AHEN-accredited on completion. We are working with partner universities toward formal recognition within their CPD frameworks.
Educator training workshops
Shorter, intensive training workshops (2–3 days) for economics faculty and postgraduate teaching assistants at African universities. Workshops are hosted by AHEN's regional hubs and offered free of charge to participants from public African universities. Two workshops per year in the founding phase; six at full scale.
Student reading groups
AHEN supports student-led heterodox economics reading groups at African universities through a small materials grant, access to the AHEN digital library, and light coordination support from the nearest regional hub. Reading groups are an entry point into AHEN's broader network for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
